Underground Plumbing Leak Detection & Repair

The plumbing that feeds a pool runs underground, beneath the deck and yard, from the pool shell to the equipment pad. When one of those buried lines fails, the evidence rarely surfaces. The water follows gravity down into the soil, the pool level keeps falling, and there is nothing visible to point at. Underground plumbing leaks are among the most common leaks on residential pools, and the most invisible.

Pipes fail underground for ordinary reasons: soil that swells and shrinks with the seasons, ground settling under the deck, glue joints that give up after years of pressure cycles, and the occasional hard freeze. None of it means the pool was built badly. It means buried PVC lives a hard life.

Clues that point at a buried line

Underground leaks leave a signature if you know how to read it. A pool that loses water mainly while the pump runs points at a pressure-side line, because that’s when those pipes are pushing water. A pump that struggles to prime, or returns that blow bubbles, points at a suction-side line pulling in air through a breach. Above ground, watch for a patch of lawn that stays lush while the rest browns, or a deck slab that starts settling as escaping water carries away the soil beneath it. Any of these alongside a dropping level moves the buried plumbing to the top of the suspect list.

Pinpoint first, dig second

We pressure-test each line individually to prove which one is losing water, then use electronic listening equipment to locate the failure, typically within six inches, even under concrete. Excavation happens only at that spot, and only with your approval. The goal is always the smallest repair area and the least disruption to your deck and yard.

The repair itself stays in-house. We fix the line, put it back under pressure to prove the repair held, and coordinate any concrete or paver restoration as part of the job instead of leaving you to find another contractor.

One honest warning: waiting is the expensive part. The water escaping a buried line doesn’t vanish, it saturates the ground that supports your deck, and soil that’s been washed or softened lets slabs settle and crack. A pipe repair caught early stays a pipe repair. Left alone long enough, it starts collecting company.
